National Education Day – 11th November
Every year, November 11 is celebrated across India as National Education Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (1888–1958) — the first Education Minister of independent India, a visionary leader, scholar, and freedom fighter.
Maulana Azad believed that education is the foundation for building a strong and progressive nation. During his tenure (1947–1958), he laid the groundwork for India’s modern education system by establishing key national institutions such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
National Education Day reminds us of his vision — “Education is not merely about gathering knowledge, but about building character, developing courage, and nurturing values.”
On this day, schools, universities, and educational institutions organize seminars, essay competitions, workshops, and exhibitions to promote awareness about the importance of education and to honor Maulana Azad’s contributions.
Let us all reaffirm our commitment to make quality education accessible to every child, empowering the youth to lead India toward knowledge, innovation, and progress.
